Building Rungs: The Landing Page, Part Three (Design)
This post is a continuation of the “Building Rungs” series. The first post is here.
I’ve already covered some of the “how” and “why” of the rungsapp.com “coming soon” landing page. But before moving on to actually building the MVP, I want to share some of my design process, mainly as an excuse to share a great resource with you.
The background image was found on Unsplash, a great source of free images for designers. I found the site on this (now very popular) list of free image sources on Medium titled “Stock Photos That Don’t Suck” by Dustin Senos.
After finding an image I liked, it was then a matter of searching on Google for a picture of a ladder (labeled for commercial re-use) and changing it up in Photoshop so that it looked more like a twisting rope ladder. For extra effect I gave the ladder a shadow as well. This gave me a nice background image.
I followed this tutorial thinking that I would want a countdown timer for the page (which I later decided to not have) and used MailChimp to get an embed code for the email signup form.
I can write more about that process in the future, just wanted to share the Medium/Unsplash links and pay credit to Anli Zaimi, the tutorial author.
Next up, actually making the MVP (for real this time).
